How can I find ly living relatives in Germany?

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

We will be visiting Mannheim in October this year. I am trying to find any living relatives and documentation of my ancestors. Can you refer me to a catholic preist, rabbi, minister, professional genealogist or anyone else who might assist me?

My paternal great grandmother Rosalie Oppenheimer was born in Mannheim May 7, 1842. She married Adolf Loebel Gutmann, Katholisch in Baden-Baden in 1868. My grandfather John Goodman (Johann Gutmann) was born in Mannheim in December 1868. They emigrated to the United States in 1872.

My maternal grandfather Otto Goldsmith was born in Mannheim 24 August 1864. His siblings were also born in Mannheim. His parents were Daniel Goldsmith and Matilda (Maas) Goldsmith. They emigrated to the United States in 1876.

The Priest and the Rabbi?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The Temple and Church were located next door to each other. The Priest and Rabbi decided to share expenses and buy a car together. They found and bought a suitable car which they parked between the two buildings.

One day, the Rabbi spotted the Priest sprinkling the car with Holy Water. Not to be outdone, the Rabbi sneeked out with a hacksaw and cut 1″ off the tailpipe…….. get it

Question for a Jewish Rabbi or other teacher?

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Can you tell me where in the Torah it defines on what day the Sabboth begins and ends. I have heard that it begins on Friday at sundown and goes until Saturday at sundown. Is this correct and if it is Where did this teaching get it’s origin. Thank you in advance for answering this question.
Ok I understand the sundown to sundown concept of a day. More specificaly what I want to know is how we know it is Fri evening to Sat evening rather than say Tues evening to Wed evening

Is that just one of the many perks that come from being #1 in the USA on Yahoo Answers? And, formerly, #1 in the world?

Should man be punished in the afterlife for misinterpreting god’s book?

Monday, September 7th, 2009

OK- Let’s say that God left a book to tell us how to live. Then sent his son to give us more direction. But we are on our own to figure out what it all means, and different churches interpret things differently. So, if god didn’t give me the mental capacity to interpret his words correctly, or to find the right guide (pastor, priest, rabbi, imam?), should I be punished in the afterlife?

Rabbi Experts Needed Attention?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Just recently at school, I was assigned a project that will tell the class how you become a Rabbi, why you become a Rabbi, what you do as a Rabbi, and what sacrifices you must make in your life as a Rabbi. All additonal information is accepted! Also, please make it as simplified as possible. Thanks~
