In AZ, can a landlord press criminal chrgs for damages left in an apartment?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Lived with a roommate, who, when we left the apt, did not fix several holes in the walls, etc., and have been told by the landlord that as well as seeking financial compensation, is going to have him arrested for the damages, can he do this?

What’s the best way to say it to my landlord?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Long story short:

Our lease will be up in 6 weeks. The place is nice, but way too small and the neighbors are too loud. Anyway, my sister’s friend offered to rent us this amazing house that is absolutely perfect for us for super cheap, but we have to move in within 2 weeks. That means we have to break our lease one month early. How can I tell my landlord this without him getting upset? Is only 2 weeks notice going to piss him off?

Is it your landlord’s responsibility to let you know you are living next to a convicted felon?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

This is to solve an argument that my friend is disputing that I should not know because it’s none of my business that I live next to a convicted felon. He said it is discriminatory for the landlord to deny him a place to live because of his criminal record. I believe that’s the reason why they run criminal records so they can weed out those individuals and provide a safe, comfortable living environment for all. Feedback from lawyers greatly appreciated.

Can my landlord kick me out of my apartment if we smoke outside?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

There is nothing saying anywhere in our lease that we can’t smoke. I smoke outside on our patio (which is not covered) we are the main floor aprtment and the lady upstairs says she can smell the smoke in her house? She complained to the landlord and keep in mind MY LANDLORD SAID WE COULD SMOKE OUTSIDE AS LONG AS THEIR WINDOWS WERE CLOSED.
The landlord came to the door last week and said that he is not renewing our lease b/c the lady upstairs complained about the smoke and she has been there longer.

My question can he do this to us? Also what can I do or say to him to rectify this problem.

can a landlord send me to collections when I do not live at the apartment?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I signed a lease beginning in September and moved out before October, leaving the lease in my name, however my ex husband, his girlfriend and his cousin are living in the apartment that is in both of our names. The landlord sent me a message today telling me that I must pay their rent or go to collections. Do I have any rights as a non-residing lease holder?

In Nh, can a landlord legally not give a reciept for rent payment?

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

It has been almost a whole month since we paid our rent, we have been up to date with all rent paid. **we owe absolutely nothing** We are coming up to the new month payment. But yet we still have not received last monthss receipt. Are there any laws that protect us or something we can do to get proof we paid, just in case. Our Landlord has been edgy and also we have asked atleast 5 to 6 times and he gets annoyed like we are bothering him.

There is water dripping out of the light in the lounge. How dangerous is this? Waitng for Landlord to do somet

Friday, August 14th, 2009

I am waiting for the landlord to do something about it but he is being very slow. In the meantime Im worried about being electrocuted while Im in the bath. The plumbing in the house seems to be very bad as there is also a leak in my bedroom which seems to have nothing to do with rain.

Can I have my landlord change these things?

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

I live in California and in my apartment agreement it says that the apartment should be in plain english a decent and clean place to live. I moved in and found out the water heater is electric and it runs the bill up alot also the faucets and shower have mold that the landlord tried to hide with white paint. What can I do about this? Also legally in california a tenant has the right to privacy and the neighbors cant violate that privacy but my neighbors kids run around tap on windows and doors all day.

landlord wants to bring people over to view the unit?

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

We are renting a condo. Our lease is up Sept. 15.
and we are hoping to be moved out and cleaned up by Aug. 30.
Our landlord wants to try and sell the condo now, and has had the realtor contact me about stopping over to just view the condition of the unit and see what upgrades need to be made. She said it will just take a few mins.

My question is, if the realtor had someone who would like to view the unit, do we have to get let them view the condo since we are still under a lease?
The landlord said on the phone she may want to bring people over.

I really don’t want anyone to come over as it is with the house being turned upside down from packing.
BTW I am in AZ if that helps any.

I am letting the realtor come over tomorrow.

Also, our lease agreement is a very generic one and she printed off somewhere. It doesn’t go into any major detail.
