Which would be the most efficient language?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

To learn to live in europe and work as a translator. I’m not looking to live well off just enough to get by and enjoy life in another country. Which language would be best to learn fluently and then get by working as a translator/interpreter?
Which country would it be most likely I could make a simple living by doing that?

what should a scholarship essay include?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

should i talk about not being awarded financial aid? and how i’m saving my money to pursue higher education abroad?

is this appropriate?

can you comment or provide suggestions on the following portion:
My goal to become a language interpreter sprang from seeing that many immigrants needed counsel as a result of the language barrier. Since my parents faced the same problems when first learning English, I felt compassion to want to help other people who could not speak the language perfectly. By bridging communication barriers, we are able to forge stronger relationships with one another and learn from each other’s cultures, which is what America is about.

i feel “which is what America is about” is a weak sentence.

Do the undocumented workers know their rights?

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

1) they are not required to tell their status to a border patrol officer, unless they have a judicial order.
2) Only a judge can ask them about their immigration status.
3) They have the right to have an interpreter if the person detaining them only speaks English.
4) They can maintain silence and at that point the interrogations need to stop.
5) They have the right to have the help of a Lawyer.

If we are all talking about “the law” and the law this and the law that, we should all respect the law, starting by the homeland security officers.

What do you think my friend should do?

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

She told me that she has a BA in Spanish with no minor, & she graduated with a low GPA-2.3. Do you think she should go for a 2nd bachelor’s in another major & start the curriculum all over again, try to get into graduate school, or try to look for a job? She also has a disability.

She asked me this & I don’t know how to help her. She also has outstanding student loans & low income, & if she discontinues school, they’ll make her pay her loans back immediately since she started back, taking extra undergrad courses to strengthen her GPA. There are no Spanish jobs available in her town, & she would have to have teacher certification in order to become a teacher. & she’s not skilled enough in Spanish to become a translator/interpreter since the school she went to mainly taught medieval Spanish literature in the English language, which was no help at all. I’m a native speaker of Spanish myself. How else can I help her strengthen her skills in Spanish besides conversation?

Iraqi living in Egypt - work or tourist visa to USA possible?

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Hello. I have been chatting online for some time to a man who was born in Iraq to parents who are Turkish/Iraq citizens. He is currently living in Egypt in exile from Iraq. He wants to visit the USA as a tourist or to possibly work as a tennis instructor or interpreter. How difficult is it for him to do either of these? This is just a friendship - there are no plans to get a visa for him via marriage or engagement. Thanks in advance!
